An Evening with the Stars!!

Sisters:
On April 15th at the Prairie View Elementary School (up on 5 Mile) as part of the school's study of our earth and planetary system, an evening of viewing our Heavens via a telescope is being offered and opened to the public - free of charge. It will begin at 8:30pm and will be a marvelous precursor to the discussion on Astronomy planned for April 29, 2010 with guest speaker: Paul Yost from the Spokane Astronomical Society - in our R.S. SZU meeting for our 'kick off' to our Intellectual pursuit. Please put these dates on your calendars and plan to attend!
This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about our earth and our Heavenly Father's Creations! - and to "Be About Our Father's Business" - to move closer to our Eternal goal. Quoting from D&C 130:18-19 we read:

"Whatever principle of intelligence we attain unto in this life,
it will rise with us in the resurrection.
And if a person gains more knowledge and intelligence in this life
through his diligence and obedience than another,
he will have so much the advantage int he world to come."

And yet another from D&C 88:118:

"Seek ye diligently and teach one another words of wisdom;
yea, seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom; SEEK LEARNING,
even by study and also by faith."

Here is something to 'whet your appetite' that I thought you all might enjoy.. Imagine how little we are on that 'tiny blue dot' of an earth....

I certainly thought this was enlightening. Didn't even realize we knew much beyond our sun...

It's a BIG universe!

Antares is the 15th brightest star in the sky. It is more than 1000 light years away. The universe is so vast it is not comprehensible by the human mind. It would be like an ant trying to understand the wonder of the internet. It can't be done.

The universe humbles us as it should.
